SAY NO TO ROBOTAXIS: Wayve Uber Driverless Rollout: Day of Action

On Saturday 17 October 2026, ADCU members and supporters gathered outside Wayve Technologies’ headquarters in King’s Cross, London, for a Day of Action opposing the rollout of driverless taxis in the UK.

The demonstration highlighted growing concerns about the impact of robotaxis on drivers’ jobs and livelihoods, public safety, congestion and the wider consequences of automation for workers.

Standing up for drivers’ jobs and livelihoods

Driverless cars are being promoted as innovation, but for many professional drivers they represent a potential threat to their livelihoods and financial security.

ADCU believes workers should not be expected to bear the costs of technological change while large technology companies reap the benefits.

Serious questions also remain about public safety, liability, the protection of vulnerable passengers and accountability when autonomous vehicles are involved in collisions or other incidents.

What ADCU is calling for

ADCU is calling for an immediate halt to autonomous vehicle trials until the following safeguards are in place:

  • A clear and enforceable Just Transition Plan for drivers.
  • Full transparency on safety incidents, interventions and near misses.
  • Independent oversight of autonomous vehicle testing.
  • Proper legal protections for human safety drivers.
  • Clear accountability for accidents and incidents involving autonomous vehicles.
Highlights from the demonstration

Our Day of Action brought members and supporters together to make their voices heard and stand up for drivers’ jobs, livelihoods and public safety.

Technology should empower workers, not replace them.

PROTECT YOUR JOB.
PROTECT YOUR LIVELIHOOD.
PROTECT PUBLIC SAFETY.
