ADCU participated in the Durham Miners' Gala fringe meeting alongside trade unions and campaign organisations from across the UK to discuss the future of workers' rights and employment protections.
During the event, ADCU General Secretary Cristina Ioanitescu spoke about the ongoing challenges faced by app drivers and couriers. The speech highlighted concerns that many platform workers remain without full employment protections despite significant legal developments, including the Supreme Court's ruling on worker status.
The address also focused on issues affecting drivers and couriers, including low pay, algorithmic management, lack of effective employment rights, and the impact of emerging technologies on the future of platform work.
ADCU called for further legislative reform to ensure that employment rights keep pace with the changing nature of work and provide meaningful protections for workers in the platform economy.
The event formed part of ADCU's continued engagement with the wider trade union movement, reinforcing the union's commitment to campaigning for fair pay, decent working conditions, and stronger legal protections for app drivers and couriers.
